Heineken SIROM Sustainability Day - Unite for a greener tomorrow
What if a simple farming project could change the course of a girl’s life?
On the 14th June 2025, Soroptimist International Kota Kinabalu (SIKK), together with SI members from other clubs, SIROM Exco, Heineken Malaysia, and Sokong, visited Bentong, Pahang as part of a meaningful project under Soroptimist International South East Asia Pacific (SISEAP).
This project aims to empower the Orang Asli community through sustainable agriculture—providing access to jobs closer to home, boosting household income, and creating long-term impact through farming and food systems.
Our day was filled with hands-on learning and heart-led connection.
We were divided into 3 groups:
🥬 Group 1 – Harvested fresh vegetables and cooked a meal with the locals
🍃 Group 2 – Pruned leaves and helped feed the animals
🌱 Group 3 – Learned about seed germination and transplanting techniques
We also had the privilege to hear from Mr. Alex Yap of Good Growers Integrated Farming, who shared how this project, supported by Heineken Malaysia and Sokong, has opened doors for the Orang Asli to gain skills, stability, and dignity through agriculture.
This is what sustainability looks like when it's done right—community-led, purpose-driven, and built on collaboration.
Because when we invest in people, we don’t just grow food. We grow futures 🌱
